Nanyan Temple
Nanyan Temple locates at the foot of Chaozhou Westlake, sits north and face south, so called Nanyan, is important culture relics of Guangdong province--- centralize location of cucurbit hill stone inscription. Here unique stone lofty and steep, carved inscription of ancientry celebrity; forest is verdant, environment is quiet; back wall has lots of unique stone which forming natural cave, can hold hundred people. Ascend the top and look around: old city landscape, soil in length and breadth, all under your eyes. Along Xiyuan road, Yudan building stand in forest and stones, reflect each other with Langaung Lake, is the place that pilgrim must go to .
According to ¡¶Haiyang Records¡·record: Nanyan ancient is nut-tree and rash place, in 1594 A.D., Zhang Yueyi tap this place, ¡°It is overgrown with weeds, cooker make nest, like stone house.¡± ¡°Various grass grow in pine forest, reflect with flower¡±, ¡°High official Xu Yiwei write on it¡±, and ¡°through path to the peak, is [reading room], there are heaven gate, heaven pool, highest kiosk, look-around platform¡±. ¡°Quiet light from paddy, remaining sound of Juankao, can hear far away.¡±
In 1624 A.D., Yi people Cheng Yanting at here ¡°Mold gold body and gather dragon figure, set decades of rooms, set up several monk field¡±, then become ¡°Golden eagle of west garden, jungle of Ma Zhuzhi¡±, ¡°Good at one wonder of county¡±. During Congzheng year, virtuous Chen Jinxi build room and monk house, honour Buddha and act as fast monk.
In 1678 A.D., officer Lin Hangxue repair it together with country gentleman Chen Yanyu, add its old system; in 1775 A.D., Fan Tongzhi again repair it and change its appearance, visitor swarm into Nanyan temple, just like record in stele: ¡°vehicle and boat accompany, visitor as a group come to here.¡± prosperous for a moment.
But because world changes, natural and man-made disaster, during the war fighting against Japan, Nanyan Temple is badly destroyed, till 1949, temple completely empty, no figure of Buddha and shaman dismissed, become a desolation place; during culture revolution, cliff inscription and carved stone about several decades, nature stone cave is chopped half, almost no shape, less people come to visit.
