Rao Zongxi Learning House

At the foot of Shuimen Chaozhou old city area, there is a Rao Zongxi Learning House praised as “Brush and ink”.

This house is first build in December 1993, is the first Chao nationality celebrity-learning house. This house occupy more than 450 square meters, building area is 700 square meters. Learning house sit north and face south, there is a across plaque inscribed “Rao Zongxi Learning House” on the gate, literature atmosphere is brilliant. The first exhibition hall take “Reputation pass in universe and shine famous nation”, introduce trace in past years and main learning contribution of Mr. Rao; second floor take “Ink painting effect art circle”, exhibit the painting and calligraphy of Mr. Rao; third floor take Hot stuff Rao Zongyi as title, from “Plentiful and extractive”, “Forecast trend and lead road”, “Diligent and self-excitation” three aspects, give commentary and introduction to the scholarship and study spirit o f Rao Zongping; forth floor is small meeting hall. Besides, there are also “book nest” that collect book and “reading place of Xuantang ” which resurgence historical environment.

Rao Zongping, word is Guan, Biolian, name is Xuantang, born in a old and well-know reading family in Chaozhou in year 1917, is a eldest son of Chaozhou famous scholar, industrial and business circle celebrity Rao Er. He is clever from childhood, 16 years ole he sequel《Chaozhou art literary record, 20 years old joint in compiling nation period 《Chaozhou record》, is one of the main revisor, during his more than 60 years learning career, he don’t stop his writing, full of knowledge, subject main include Dunhuang, Jiagu, vocabulary, historiography, catalog, Cuchi archaeology, painting and calligraphy etc. He master eight sorts of languages---include Babylon ancient word and India ancient Fan character which is almost “a sealed book” for local people, solve world difficult learning problem, give lectures in American, Japan, France, Singapore etc successively, get France Ruilian Sinology prize in 1962, praised as “Sinology master who lead out of loosing”. Possess much title of Chinese professor, researcher, academician etc in many countries, “Take high reputation and extensive influence at academic circle at home and abroad” (word of professor Ji Xianlin).
